This Saturday I went to National Palace Museum to prepare my report. The exhibition I focused on is called”New Vision at the Ch’ing Court ‘, which mainly depicts how western-style painting came to influence the tradition of Chinese painting. The hero at this exhibition is Giuseppe Castiglione, who is considered one of the most talented and well known missionary-painters.
His paintings present a very intriguing feature that’s worth mentioning---The mix of western painting technique with Chinese one. For example, while using western perspective to draw animals, he chose to paint the background in Chinese way.
It certainly offers us a new vision to look at things.
